History

Tseminyu became a separate administrative headquarter on 18 June 1948 with the establishment of Rengma Bench Court, inaugurated by the then Deputy Commissioner of Kohima Shri Indat Ali. Shri K. Sentsi Kent became the first Chairman of the Rengma Bench Court. Later, Liaison Officer, Shri. J. S. Pathak was posted for a short span in 1956, following which in the same year Shri. Daniel Kent was appointed as Political Assistant to Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Naga Hills, Assam.

It was subsequently upgraded to Circle Officer in May 1958, followed by posting of Assistant Commissioner-II under Naga Hills Tuensang Area on 19th April 1963. After the formation of Nagaland State in 1963, the administrative headquarter of Tseminyu was upgraded to that of Extra Assistant Commissioner on 10th April, 1966.

As settlement and administrative needs of people grew, it was upgraded to that of Sub-Division Officer (Civil) HQ on 26th January 1981 and subsequently to that of Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarter on 18th June 1991 under Kohima district.

Tseminyü as an administrative District was created on December 18, 2021 as the 13th district of Nagaland. The new district has the same boundaries as the former Tseminyü sub-division of Kohima district.
